WHAT IS YOGA?

Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means union. Simply put, yoga is an opportunity to unite the mind and body. For thousands of years, yoga has been practiced by combining movement, breath and mediation. Yoga promotes strengthening of the core, improved balance, flexibility, and stamina. Unlike the tradition workout, yoga is based upon deep breathing and brings a sense of calm throughout the entire body.

WHAT HOURS IS NYC OPEN?

NYC offers classes at varying times throughout the day and may open 30 minutes before each class, 20-30+ minutes after each class and doors may be locked while a class is in session.

NYC's front desk is open

Monday-Sunday, 8:30AM-1PM and Monday-Friday, 3:00PM-6:30PM

Saturday & Sunday, 8:30AM-1:00PM

WHAT IF I'M LATE OR HAVE TO LEAVE EARLY?

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before class starts and stay for the entire duration to keep disruptions to a minimum. We understand prior commitments may be scheduled. If so, please let the instructor know before class and quietly excuse yourself when needed.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR/BRING?

Comfortable clothes that allow you to stretch and move easily are strongly encouraged. NYC provides yoga mats and props; a towel and water is also recommended for every class. All items listed are for sale at NYC. Please avoid cologne, perfume, body oils/lotions, and large jewelry.

SHOULD I EAT BEFORE CLASS?

Eating at least 2 hours before class is not suggested. You want to feel comfortable, make sure you are fueled and hypdrated but not full.

WHAT IF I'M NOT FLEXIBLE?

Flexibility is not necessary to begin your yoga journey and does not come easy to many people. The more classes you take, the more elastic your entire body will become leading to a more pliable practice.  Besides, yoga is not just about a flexible body, it's also about a flexible mind.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MEDITATE, IS THAT IMPORTANT?

Similar to flexibility, meditation is not necessary to begin your yoga journey. Meditation will naturally occur throughout the body during each class. Your participation will create a deep concentration within the body as you breath and move through each posture.

WHAT IF I'M INJURED?

Yoga is one of the greatest holistic medicines for the body and is strongly encouraged for many injuries. Be sure to speak with an instructor before class of your injury to ensure a safe practice.

WHAT IF I HAVE THE SUDDEN URGE TO LAUGH OR CRY?

A wall of emotions is entirely common during the practice of yoga. The human body holds back many feelings, these feelings are then released during class as you open and reconnect with your body. Think of the studio as a safe place where you are free be vulnerable and release any and all emotions.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE?

NYC would love to see you every day but we know that is not always possible! To receive the maximum amount of benefits a regular yoga practice can provide, class is recommended at least 3-4 times every week.  We suggest that you come 3 times a week to change your body and 5 times a week to change your life!
